Rive Gauche — the Left Bank of Paris.
In this city where art and culture breathe in everyday life, Toko Amemiya, a Paris-based freelance announcer, shares the scenes that blend into her daily routines and the places she holds dear.

In the fourth installment of the series “La Vie Rive Gauche,” we bring you a look at the Vernissage held to celebrate our brand’s very first POP-UP in Paris. We hope you enjoy it.

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Deuxième Classe vernissage held in Paris.
The word vernissage comes from the French “vernissage,” referring to the preview event held the day before an exhibition opens. It’s a festive occasion where invited guests can get an early look at the artworks or products, accompanied by champagne and finger foods.

This time, the finger foods were prepared by my friend Hiroko Shiraishi, who runs a vegan catering service in Paris. Her beautifully crafted and delicate flavors delighted all the guests.

“Deuxième Classe” has its roots in France, as its name suggests. The name, which literally means “second-class train,” embodies the idea of incorporating subtle twists and effortless touches—much like a Parisienne—creating a relaxed, easygoing style. Over the past 30 years since its founding, the brand has continued to evolve and grow.

This time, the venue was located at 70 Rue du Cherche-Midi in the 6th arrondissement. Lined with trend-savvy shops, the street perfectly matched the brand’s aesthetic. From the shelves and lighting to the iron barrière (barrier or grille) at the back of the store, everything was strikingly similar to the shops I often visit in Tokyo. I was truly impressed by the staff’s dedication, from scouting the location to recreating every detail.

And the vernissage was a great success. When I walked past the store the day before, some ladies even tried to open the door, thinking it was already open—the excitement carried straight through to the event itself.

Congratulations to Deuxième Classe on their 30th anniversary!
